Hi all 😀
I'm looking for small connectors for low voltage power umbilicals (mostly 15V, occasionally 24V).
I'd prefer options for male and female for both the cable and chassis mount parts so there are no exposed power-carrying pins. I've used XLRs in the past, but I want to avoid possible confusion between power and signal.
I'd love to go for the likes of Lemo, but those are way out of budget at present. I've looked at the usual GX12 / GX16 aviation connectors, but the ones I've found thus far are all male on the chassis mount. The Bulgin 400 series parts come very close, but the need to buy separate contact pins, insertion tools etc. is a pain.
Does anyone out there have a recommendation?

DIN connectors are cheap and readily available, in all styles.

That's a great suggestion, thank you rayma!
I went down the Mouser rabbit hole, and several hours later I think I've found a winner - TE Connectivity M12 series. Pretty reasonable at ~$6 a connector.
Here are part numbers for those who are interested:
T4111002031-000 (male plug, 6-8mm wire)
T4111001031-000 (male plug, 4-6mm wire)
T4110002031-000 (female plug, 6-8mm wire)
T4110001031-000 (female plug, 4-6mm wire)
T4132012031-000 (male socket)
T4133012031-000 (female socket)

Remember to observe the proper genders:
source box = female chassis mount
cable source end = male plug
cable load end = female plug
load box = male chassis mount
source box = female chassis mount
cable source end = male plug
cable load end = female plug
load box = male chassis mount

Yup 😀

One alternative are the Chinese Y2M aviation / military connectors, available on eBay but far less expensive on AliExpress (e.g., Y2M aviation – Buy Y2M aviation with free shipping on AliExpress version). You won't get gender choices, but the connectors are robust and the connection itself is neat and consistent. Of course, shipping is very slow, so you need to order well in advance.

Scott

Thanks Scott, those look great for the money! I'll definitely give them a try once our postal system reopens.
