Bought two EVJ-YK1F03368 units
At max resistance:
unit 1, channel 1: 49.8 kohm
unit 1, channel 2: 48.6 kohm
unit 2, channel 1: 48.7 kohm
unit 2, channel 2: 47.5 kohm
at min resistance:
unit 1, channel 1: 5.6 ohm
unit 1, channel 2: 3.2 ohm
unit 2, channel 1: 5.5 ohm
unit 2, channel 2: 3.3 ohm
at center detent:
unit 1, channel 1: 41.6 kohm
unit 1, channel 2: 8.36 kohm
unit 2, channel 1: 40.6 kohm
unit 2, channel 2: 8.15 kohm
Is this normal? The two units show good consistency but what the heck is up with the resistance at the detent? I didn't measure resistance anywhere besides those 3 points.

I think you're measuring it wrong. The low and high ends are ok, but at the middle the sum of two readings adds up to the correct resistance so it seems that channel 1 is being measuring from "top to bottom" and channel 2 is measured from "bottom to top".

Also, at minimum resistance, the channels show significantly different resistance.
That's perfectly normal for pots, lookup the datasheet, this pot allows +-3dB difference between channels - that's +-40%. Better ones guarantee 1.5dB, but only at higher levels - still 19%.
If it's logarithmic, it's not a tone control.
Have fun, Hannes
I think I got the wrong part here.

The curve is AC whereas the correct curve should be A or D.
Damn it!

I think I've figured out what I need for volume control; either the EVJ-Y10F03A24 or the EVJ-Y10F03A54 should work (vertical, metal bushing, A-type log taper, 20K or 50K respectively). If somebody could confirm that, I'd be quite appreciative.
However, my question now is whether 20K or 50K would be better for general use. Tracking seems to be better away from the extremes, so the 20K would stay away from the high end of the resistance. However, it seems that 50K is more common as a volume control. Some help here would be great.
