P101 MPSA42 sub

Hey all, building another ESP P101 amp and missing MPSA42. Rod indicates MPSA06 ok for sub...I have MPSW06...ok to sub? if not, what is best sub for MPSA42?

The MPSA06 and MPSW06 look same, but differ in power dissipation only?

The important part is the Vceo rating. No the MPSA06 cannot be used, it is only 80V vs the 300V rating of the MPSA42.

The 2N5551 may be suitable, but it's pinout is reversed so take that into account when you install them

From memory, MPSW types just had a taller package than standard TO92 types. That would only slightly increase the heat dissipation because the epoxy plastic isn't a good heat conductor. So the half-watt rating is only increased to 1 watt - just fine if the advice on the MPSA06 substitution is good and you build only the low power version.

MPSA42 and MPSA92 are still available from Onsemi, distributors and resellers. You could always buy locally if you'd rather not wait for parts to arrive.
