I recently got a Dukane 4003 and a Sharp Qa-1150 panel. Everything works great except that after about 10 minutes the projector overheats and the bulb shuts off until it cools. I know these things are meant to run for hours at a time and seem to be simple devices (just a fan and bulb) aside from the optics of course. . here's a list of everything I've tried to diagnose the problem:
-Different bulb, also tried removing one bulb and leaving one inside for airflow reasons
-reseating the bulb into the fixture
-running projector without panel
-checked that legs are extended and mirror has dropped into the correct position.
I can tell from the exhaust air that it is genuinely overheating and doesn't just have a bad bulb, however, both of my bulbs have cracks on the outside of their reflector (FXL 410, 82). I believe the cracks are a result of subjecting them to extreme temperatures. Dukane Cust. Service told me it wasn't the bulb, but had to be something else. The guy that sold it to me on e-bay said he never had a problem with it overheating. . Any ideas would be appreciated - I'd like to get this thing figured out before the Super Bowl 🙂

heya buddy are all of the fans moving in it? and do u have any pics of the internals? also have u dusted it out?

Well, I guess I could try blowing it out with compressed air, would dust cuase it to overheat? There is only one fan inside and it works fine. . I think maybe my projector got damaged in shipping or maybe I should try a new bulb. I'm pretty happy with the dukane (aside from the functional 15 minute spurts) so if I buy another, a spare bulb wouldn't be a waste. Also I'm trying to attach a picture if the internals but I think it's too big to be posted, I read on here about guys having trouble with that but don't remember where it was at. Well, I appreciate you trying to help a newb out - I'd really like to get this working.
heya bud maybe its the thermal switch its self, though u did say its getting genuinley hot so maybe not, just a thought, yeah depending on how much dust is in there it will run cooler when cleaned, its the same with computers, tv's u name it, as for your picture not attaching u can shrink your image in a program like paint shop pro, u can do it with the image resize function, try to make it about 640x480 and it should work.

Sensor
Trev may be on the right track, although when sensors fail they often fail open, in other words the projector would just not turn on.
You also might want to check the location of the sensor, it could have come loose in shipping and moved to a different spot, a place that has less airflow, or is closer to the bulb. This might bring the temperature up higher than the threshold of the sensor even though it isn't quite above the temperature rating of the ohp.
You would be amazed at the amount of heat those halogen bulb can generate, my 3M projector has tripped before and I couldn't tell the difference in air temp by feeling the air at the fan exhaust.
good luck
