I am using a ballast, ignitor, capacitor combo for a 150 watt hqi bulb. After about 10 minutes of use the ballast is very hot.
The hqi and ballast is 220volts. I have a transformer from 220 to 110 to adapt to my 110 v system from the wall.
I am worried the ballast will get damaged o start a fire in my wood box even with ventilation right on it.

110 from wall?
Are you sure about that? I read somewhere that Brazil gets 127 volts on the power mains. If you are using a 1:2 transformer, then that would give you 254 volts. That might be too high for a 220 volt ballast.
Another thing to think about: How much current can your transformer output?

The wall is 110 or 127 not sure but this is not of concern since I bought the transformer to handle standard wall current in my area to 220v hqi ballast ignitor conversion. I spoke to a electrician and he said its normal for the ballast to heat up to the point where you cant touch it with your hand.
I have the ballast raised about 1 inch of the wood just incase.

You should hear the bang they make when they eventualy die!
Oh, wait, just let em run for a few months or so... just remember, you are not under attack, its only the balast that went south!
