has any one ever Oc's their Vidz?
I've doen this on my ati 7200Pci and on my 8500Lc AGP both a success with much patience.....

any ways the REAL reason why i created this thread is to ask what you guys think about this.. http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/product.asp?pid=6538&sid=5E8Q9CAU0HDE8KRVMV41UFKRXWA7AP7C

read the reviews from the ppl who bought it. i JUST heard aboout Oc'ing a 9500(NON PRO) to 9700 PRO!
they say you need to have a non pro 9500 128 OEM saphire to do this, im very excited about this! i think im goin to sell my 8500LE to buy this! its only 137$

the reason why this can be modded to a 9700 pro is bcuz its basically the 9700 PCB locked and slowed to a 9500
the "softmod" app unlocks the 256bit mem core and BOOSTS the clocks speeds to match the 9700pro and somethimes surpassing it! they say it can only be done with SAPHIRE card bcuz there BIOS come unlocked by default.

if you have a 9500 that meets the requirements of this mod and have tried it or will try this please let me know!😀

I know its not always successful i never said it was....

im aware of that forum this is DIY VIDEO, anything concerning video can has and will continue to be posted here ...not only projectors... 🙂

anyways...what are your scores(benchmarks) and how much did you pay for it?

i think this is an AMAZING find if it works right and i want to share it with eveyone whos interested...getting a 9700pro for 137$!! WOW!! :nod: :devily: :mafioso:

::EDIT::

this shows a modded 9500 beating a 9700 pro!! http://www.digit-life.com/archive.shtml?20030105

NOTE: THIS ONE REQUIRES SOLDERING!

hardocp tested a modded 9500 to 9700. their experience was bad because they got 2 modded boards, both of wich didnt work as advertised. this proces also requires modifying the actual video core chip. thus is u screw up the card is gone so if u want to do this be warned that u could ruin the card.

Link me to the Hard Ocp test?

welli still want to do this its 50/50
im only SOFT modding i dont ever plan on touching hardware, i've heard more success stories than failure EVEN doughboy made it work lol....think of the chances i think its more than not that it will succed, i've about 25 ppl on another board who did it and one who did it here and more on the review page there are countless more who did it!

my only concern is when did doughboy buy his, bcuz i think ATi is changine the board so that this mod wont be possible...i hope im not too late

This is valid to our discussions here I think. I myself am looking for a 9500 pro to overclock to a 9700 pro. I have looked into using the rivatuner application as well, and the $150 price point seems to be the optimum. Nvidia cards seem to have a little more flexibility in the driver software(resizing the screen).

Not true dude. My 9500pro is now a 9700pro. There's a relatively new bios that you have to flash the card w/. Then Windows detects it as a 9700pro. After that you just overclock it to 325/310 or whatever, and voila- a 9700pro.

I dunno how much more $$ the 95pro is compared to the 95non-pro, but if it's only $20 or so it might be worth saving the aggravation of the hardware mod that may not even work right.

Of course there's no garantee that a 9500pro will be stable at 325/310, but I'm not having any problems whatsoever. In fact, I could probably push it more.

The 9500pro should be limited by its pcb. The memory should only be 128bit and not able to be modded to a 9700. here is a chart listing all the specs of the cards. The only exception to the chart is the 9500 non pro that was built on the 9700 pcb, it will have a 256 bit mem bus thus moddable.

This thread has all the info you could possibly need.

To be honest with you, I'm no expert on this. But what I do know is that there is a definate chance that the hard mod for the np will not work. I've heard 50%, I've heard less, but nevertheless, how much of a performance difference will there be between the 128 bit and 256 bit ram when all else is equal (335/310mhz, 8 pipes)? How much less bandwidth does that translate into?

I'd love to do a comparison and run 3dmark on my machine with a 9700pro if I had one, but I don't. I can't really compare to other machines because I get a bad score due to my crappy mobo and RAM (generic CL 3). But after overclocking my 95pro to 325/310, by 3dmark 2k3 score went from around 3800 to 4200 or so.

I'm just saying that it might be a better alternative. Look at the 1st page of messages in the link you posted. Tons of checkered screen victims.

The only difference between the 9500pro and the 9700 non-pro is the memory bus, 128 vs 256. That thread gives a fair idea of how sucessful people were. Some had minor checkerboarding that they could live with and others just had too much. Some even claim freezing their card fixed the problem.

your score has alot to do with your PC as well 🙂 (moreso than GFX IMO)

i get around 8K and im using a clocked down 8500 64 mb...geez i cant wait to get a 9500->9700 pr mod!
my current has great abilities but very low frequency and due to 1.12 volt locks i cant OC my card 🙁

OFF TOPIC:

does any one know where i can get some really cheap Vid card coolers,fan,HSF etc...
or if your selling some 🙂

::EDIT::

Doughboy, the other differences in 95-97 P are 97 has 8 pipelines 95 np has 4(disabled) 95 np jas 1.6 g pixels 97 has 2.0
and the obvious difference in speeds,fillrates...etc..
