There have been many posts (eg Arcticbreaze )about the cost of trafos in NZ. The NZ/US exchange rate doubles the cost, and then P & P doubles it again.
I have to use what I have got when rolling my own, and very happy with the results too. The method mentioned gets me into the workshop instead of just reading and wishing.

The opposite approach - the $100 vintage NOS papyrus-in-mermaid-oil capacitors and $250 crystal-aligned UFO-metal transformers - is what bothers me.
