Does anyone know which side of a k40y-9 is the outer shield? I read that the backward E indicates this, but it's been awhile and I forgot.
Tried google but after an hour I give up. I don't own a scope so that method won't work for me. Richard

Is this really necessary? I have just built a linestage and the final output caps are audionote foil, I was on the website earlier and it appears that i have installed them the wrong way round! beginners luck!! my question is... will i really notice if i turn them around?

Auricap says the outer foil should go to the signal source (driver stage) and the inner foil goes to the circuit output (power tube's grid). Many people who have tried say it doesn't make much difference either way.

If you ground the shield it does not matter, but if not it may pick up lower frequencies a bit better when outer shield is soldered to a grid.
sorry if I manage an old 3d 😉
if it would not make much sense I would like to understand if in theory it is better to put the inner foil (therefore more shielded) in input to the signal or in output.
I think it is better to put the inner foil in the imput of the signal, to better shield.
what do you think about ?

Need to measure to be sure with those if I recall correct.
Fit with outer foil end to lower impedance side. So outer foil end to ground if it is a decoupling application, or signal in the outer foil side if in a signal path application as the previous stage will be the lower impedance side.
diypass, fitted these ways provides better noise rejection.

thank you for clarification pathway.
but if i want measure where is the outer foil in relay difficult ?

You need a scope.
But I have seen vids of people using the guitar lead connection on a guitar amp.

I usually get caps that already have it indicated on them, or I contact the manufacturer and ask, but that's not possible with a NOS Russian cap like the OP has there.
