The caps won't heat up for no reason. If there is no intermittent short, it may have a shorted turn.

This is basically the same amp as a power acoustic. Are the inductors in series or parallel?
Post a photo of the output (on the scope) with the scope set to 5v/div, 2ms and DC coupling. Set the trace to the reference line.

I don't see enough there to cause caps to heat up but it is odd that the signal isn't uniform.
