Original Rega Planar3 Mechanical Hum?

Just had this little problem creep up on me over the last few days.

I don't think this is related to the motor hum issue, where hum is heard as the cartridge gets close to the motor.

As the stylus is placed down at the start of a record, there is an immediate humming sound through the speakers, at about the same frequency as mains hum.

With the platter off and the motor turning the sub platter, The drive belt is vibrating like crazy (it is a new belt), and I guess transferring the vibrations through the platter / record and up to the stylus.

I'm pretty sure its being caused by the Motor suspension belt aging, but thought I would ask first, as I dare say there are others who have had the same problem.

The motor itself runs very quietly, but I will treat to a few drops of oil when I have it apart.

TIA.

Have replaced the motor suspension belt, but it doesn't seem to have improved things, the belt still vibrates.

Also, does anyone know if the screws that mount the motor plate from the top side of the deck should be really slack?

In order to get the motor pulley below the platter height, I had to slacken the screws off to a point where there is probably only a turn or so holding things together, If this is normal, I could put a drop of Loctite on the end of each screw, I did notice that the screws seemed slack when I took it apart, but thought they may have been like that due to the suspension belt shrinking over the years.

on the plus side the ticking noise I had has gone. 🙄
