I now know that i need a 20 pin FFC extension cable, it needs to be about 10" long so that its out of the way of the LCD.

First off what pitch (spacing between connections) do you need? 0.5mm is fairly standard but they also come in different sizes.
If you need 0.5mm, then for the lead, RS part 459-1976 should work for you, note that there's a minimum order of 5 so that's £5 on your bill.
For the sockets (to join 2 leads with - you can just sandwich two together pin to pin in one socket) RS part 332-3277 should work, there's a minimum order of 10 on those so that's another £6 on your bill.
The minimum quantities are standard across RS so you'll have plenty to extend with, just make sure you get the correct pitch / number of wires.

Atsnom, if you still have any spare FFC cable & connectors can you let me know pls, just taken everything apart and tested all ok, apart from I need to extend the ffc ribbon, If not, I'm going to have to buy from RS too, cheers.
