Options on Building a 17 Inch Projector

If you plan on using the 135 triplet I would suggest that you do not use the 330/330 fresnel combination. I used that combo with a 15 inch lcd and could not get acceptable corner focus.

I changed my setup to a 15.4 inch proview lcd (1280x800) and used the 550 fresnel available from 3dlens.com (used a 330 as the rear lens) and am getting acceptable focus on the corners.

As you are using a full 17" lcd your best bet would be the 550/330 combination as well I would think.

Good luck with the build.

So would I use 550 on the Light Side, and 330 on the lense side? Is there any other lighting that I would need besides that kit? and what type of ballast for power do you think I need?

I'm INCREADIBLY excited to get this going, I would really like to get this project up finished within the next 3 weeks, seeing your guys's projects totally amaze me, and I figure this is the perfect solution to my high def problems 🙂 Any opinions are greatly appreciated! thank you!

550 on the Lens side and 330 on the lamp side.
The 400 watt setup will be enough for your needs, it's what I use and I have no complaints about brightness.

Have fun.

i think the optimal equipment is 220 mm fresnels before lcd and 550mm or 450mm on the other side of lcd

When I used a 220/330 combination with a 15" lcd I found that the 220 illuminated the screen fairly well with only a small hotspot. When I switched over to the 135 triplet I found I needed a 330/330 setup to get the same result.

I rebuilt using a 550/220 with my 15.4" lcd (to test out) and found that using the 220 resulted in a serious hotspot, I then switched to the 550/330 combination and am happy with the result (light more even across the whole screen with a hardly noticable hotspot).

okay, so I went ahead and picked up my Lighting Equipment, after doing some well searching here I found a 400w ballast that alot of people have been enjoying for 40 bucks on ebay.

And then I decided to go ahead and pick up the lighting that was needed with it (ushio uhi-s400d Lamp) from Atlanta Light Bulbs

Now I'm down to the Fresnel's and lenses, what do you guys reccomend? I'd really like to not spend more then 80 dollars total between the 2, and the 550/330 Combo seems to be a shoe in, how would they work with this lense:

very well? and would it also be helpful to get the UV screens or are they not needed? anything else I'm missing besides the LCD? You guys have been a great help! thank you so very much!

The 550/330 combo was quoted for the long throw 135mm lens, I dont think it will work with the short throw triplet. If you are intent on using the smaller triplet (you are really going to push it with a 17" lcd) you might want to use the 330/330 or the 330/220 fresnel setup. Keep in mind that with the short throw lens and a 17"lcd your projector is going to have to be set up very close to the screen. I am using the 135 triplet and am getting an 8 foot wide image with the pj 12 feet back.

Okay, I'll go with the long throw lense and a 550/330 Fresnel, thank you very much for your help, I can't seem to find alot of info on 17 Inch Monitor setups right now thanks so much for your help, you saved me from probably making a huge mistake.

If anyone else wants to chime in on what else should be needed please feel free too 🙂 I'm going to pick up the fresnels and lenses, thanks guys!
