I'm completely new to source selector/volume control as a separate component (always had potentiometers built into amplifiers until now) so please excuse the question that you probably get a lot, but I couldn't see a sticky.
I'm working on a new soundsystem with separate sub & HF amplifiers so I want a separate source selector/volume control to sit before the active crossover rather than having separate potentiometers on each amp. Nothing too special or amazing, just the ability to select between at least 3 unbalanced inputs to 1 output (balanced would be a bonus, but not required), with a decent enough volume control (probably a blue Alps as a stepped attenuator would put me over budget) & maybe a mute switch so I can turn sources on/off without having to switch to a different input.
Are there any ready-made units like this, or good PCBs/kits that might serve as starting points for DIY? In terms of form factor I either want something relatively small that can sit at the corner of my desk within easy reach, or something 19" rack to match the crossover/amplifiers.

As far as pre-made units go, I've found the RDL EZ-MX4L which is available on Canford for £132.48 which is a bit more than I wanted to spend but looks sturdy - I've never heard of RDL before though, does anybody have any opinions on them?

Can you be a bit more specific? I found plenty of noname rubbish (Behringer etc.) but not really much in the way of DIY stuff (I may have been searching the wrong terms).Check out ebay. Plenty of them there.

Behringer may not be the epitome of pro-studio gear, but noname rubbish?
For diy volume control, checkout the huge Lightspeed thread.
I prefer to use good quality relays for input selection, google ebay for kits.
