Options for my library/ listening room

Thank you all for the expert advice. Unfortunately there is a female in the house that limits my "acoustic" dynamic(moving furniture, bass traps etc.) Dave the idea of a custom enclosure sounds enticing yet possibly pricey not to mention, should I actually get a chance to move to another "listening venue" in the house, this enclosure would be possibly null and void. I looked and the Markaudio 4 inch drivers in your housing on stands looked interesting with a relatively small footprint. Could this be a compromise? Thanks, TEG BTW, any of you guys going to Axpona?

Hello again. When I made my OP i was out of town. Now that I'm home sitting here in the library I don't think bookshelfs on stands would be that much of a physical encroachment. FWIR from your responses the bookshelf mount will yield the lowest sonic characteristics. So my next question is what driver should I consider in this capacity. As far as my own sonic preference is concerned I don't much care for rolled off treble, or bloated bass. My own experience with midrange is evolving. For years I always listened with a good deal of mr attenuation but as of late I don't seem to mind mids a little more upfront. As an example, the Fe206 series vs smaller drivers of again Fostex, TB, MA? Sorry guys Lowther is out of the question, at least for my freshmen build anyway..lol

TEG - if it wasn't for the power level, I'd resoundingly recommend the Alpair 7, in either something like the MarKen or floorstanding Pensil enclosure.

As it is, I think a Fostex FE126E based design should be on your short list. Depending on how much floor space you can dedicate, the FH or even Buschhorn MK I would be worth a look.

Of course, there's always the impending Fostex 2011 series, and it remains to be heard how the new FF125 & 165FWK will perform in boxes other than the generally underwhelming "recommended" BR designs.
