Optimum settings for Computer Sound levels

Just wanted to start a thread on computer sound. I found that my computer stereo setup sounded best with the volume control of the computer set to 50% and turning the volume control of my amp up.

Try it and tell me if it sounds better for you too... then we could perhaps find out why... For me, its such a startling difference that I'm listening to all my mp3s again.

I would disagree.

The theory I think says that the volume control on the soundcard has nothing to do with the resolution available to the dac. It is a seperate gain stage of much lower sound quality than that of your amp. Hence, when the majority of gain is in the amp you get a better sound than when its in the sound card.
