optical coaxial connection

I hv one old Philips cd player CD-880 with optical socket totally broken in transport. I hv another sony minidisc player with coaxial input.
I am left with two options.
1) Either get optical socket & get it working.
2) Get optical to coaxial adaptor.

Now i will like to check the coaxial output of my cd player. So that i can confirm that there is no other fault in the cd player.

How to do so?

most recent receivers (i.e. from about 2000 to present) have coaxial inputs. all you need to connect them is 50 or 75 ohm cable with RCA plugs on the ends. a well made video (vcr or dvd composite) cable should work well enough for testing.
