I looked at the circuit a long time ago. If I remember correctly, there is an op-amp per channel, each channel has a coupling cap, a resistor and a mute transistor. The resistor makes the output impedance rather high, but it limits current when the muting transistor is switched in.
I don't use the analog outs of my Oppo 981, so I have not ever experimented with trying to make it sound better. But it would probably make the output impedance much lower if you removed the mute transistors and shorted the current limit resistor.

probably over 1k ohms. I don't think anybody here has seen an official schematic. If someone has, I would like a copy of it 😀
