I tried a very similar idea to Privates, and I feel that I gave up on it too quickly. When I look at the measurements, although the general output with the rear driver connected was unaffected, which surprised me, the harmonic resonances of the line were all but eliminated. Strangely though I did not feel it sounded all that much better.
It gave me the idea that with music, resonances are not so hyper critical, (they are with the spoken word), and that uncompromised dynamics are more critical for music reproduction.
