I have the opportunity to purchase a pair of Wharfdale Super 12 RS DD full range speakers . Would they be suitable in a two way open baffle design.
Thanks.
Thanks.

As a midTweeter. With helper bass driver.
If it has the same metal foil dustcap, that should probably come off and phase plug intalled.

This driver looks to be happy in a ported cabinet. A Q that low means it might be fine OB if you add a woofer like Dave says. Without, there will be no bass.

Thanks Dave and Cal for your response.
For the price offered I might get better value from more modern drivers. I’m looking to possibly go 3 way.
There are plenty of topics here to get ideas from .
Cheers gentlemen.

How much i being asked?
I am giving away my Super 8s. Nodustcap. Badly matched impedance.

A bewildering election of suitable candidtes for FRs that would make good midTweeter.
The Super 12 probably offers better dynamics and more ensitivity but even the cheap CHN-50 probably sounds better, and the CHN-110 sounds good and would bring better dyanics than the baby one, If the budget is large they still have some of the fabled MAOP 10.
While my favourite there are lot of mdern FRs people like.

Thanks Dave, I am unfamiliar with those speakers you mentioned. On checking, the MAOP10’s seem rather small. What listening area would they suit?
David.
David.
In an OB with woofer support the XO to the midTweeter is high enuff (dictated largely by the baffle width) that smaller i a big asset.
I haven’t heard anything larger than 8” that i have liked and my favourites are maller.

Sound will depend on the drivers' condition. I'd suggest something like the following:

Interesting, I also accept everyone’s taste is different in some way.In an OB with woofer support the XO to the midTweeter is high enuff (dictated largely by the baffle width) that smaller i a big asset.

I think vintage Wharfedale had a "house sound" in that published response charts of different models and sizes all looked the same to me. I have a so-so 8" bought cheap, and a great 8" not cheap hence my comment.
I am wondering if anyone is aware of company manufactures a full range speaker (10”) that incorporates a screw in compression driver tweeter from the rear.

The 10 inch does 70Hz to 20kHz.

Then you mate it w:

Does this work for you?
Note that the plans call for a 12" Woofer too.
Many thanks for your reply. I am aware of the company and have enquired about cost posted to Australia. The post cost is out of my budget I’m afraid. Hoping for another alternative. Regards

Eminence Beta 10CX
Good call on the Eminence.
You'd also have to buy the tweeter and then cross over. Still ~$250USD ish per speaker?
(rough numbers.)

I am looking at a circuit for open baffle speakers and the tweeter has an L pad and a 3.3uf capacitor. Could I use two 1.5uf capacitors in place of the 3.3 ? Thanks.
