Hallo gents,
has anyone out there already compared the Telefunken open baffle which can be seen at "glow in the dark audio" by Kevin Davis with the open baffle from the japanese magazin "Stereo Sound" in the artikle "Tube Kingdom" which also can be seen at "je labs" by joseph Esmilla? Regards from germany, Stefan

The latter one is very similar to the old Wharfedale SFB/3s (sand filled baffle)
Interesting that is uses as upward firing tweeter.

Letzteres ist dem alten Wharfedale SFB/3s (sandgefüllte Schallwand) sehr ähnlich.
Interessant, dass er als nach oben gerichteter Hochtöner verwendet wird.

Hallo gnat-leader,
thx for replying, well I know the Wharfdale SFB/3 but like this open baffle http://www.musicalaffairs.com/home-fieldcoil/ with the french EMS Fertin speakers which has been made by the famous dutch Hans Kortenbach (Musical Affairs) who sadly passed away to early some years ago, the Telefunken and the japanese OB were made for fullrange speaker application. Regards Stefan

So one of these then? I've been collecting the designs ;-)
Hi gnat-leader,
yes - these are exact the both and I even got the drawings from Kevin Davis, the 3D Warehouse and the japanese drawing. Both can be used with a adapter plates reducing even body sound and it makes them very versatile from 4" to almost 12" speakers. Regards Stefan

Hallo gents,
I'm very sorry - I naturally ment a comparison of how these two open baffles sound. And not to build - no one for example would start a conversation of the difference of a square and a circle! An open baffle generally spoken means more or less some boards screwed or glued together - thats it. If anyone wants to go deeper in detail, it makes sence to build it with an adapter plate which is discoupled to the rest of the open baffle with 4mm thin hardboard and a 2mm gap to reduce the transfer of body sound. Regards to all.........Stefan

Hi gents,
there is something to be added - in case of the comparison between the telefunken and the japanese style OB they both are for crossover free single speaker fullrange application. In my case, it means that they should run with fullrange speakers from 4" (MA CHP 70.2, 86,5dB) up to 12" (Philips AD 12202, 98dB) and in the medium diameter range with a MA P12.2 /92dB, Philips AD 9710 M01/94dB. regards and nwe, Stefan

Lovely mids but lacking any realistic sparkle in the highs... These are custom drivers but ...
