Op-amp Upgrade

I am looking into upgrading an opamp on my pc soundcard. Its an Asus Xonar DS. It has an onboard opamap socket with a TI's NE5532 DIP. I was thinking of either OPA627 or OPA827. Since NE5532 is a dual and both, OPA627 and OPA827 are singles I am planning to use a BrownDog board. I've heard good things about OPA627 - apparently it has a 'valve' sound. What are your opinions on the 627 and 827 ?? Is there anything else you would suggest ??

opa2107 in dip form, might be a good choice.

827 and 627 will both require a 'brown dog' adapter, obviously.

whoops.

Only the opa827 requires the adapter to get to a DIP style mounting package, the OPA827 being available in MSOP-8 and SIOC-8 surface mount packages only.

OPA627 is available in the DIP-8 package.

Some folks claim they can hear the adapters, when they are used.

yah gotta watch out for that.

A 'which op amp?' thread on an audio board... is like a 'which oil for my engine?' thread on an automotive board.

Both have a penchant for dissolving into augmentative nightmares. For no good reason.

🙂
