owners manuals are easy to find, but for warranty / liability concerns, the manufacturer might have good reason to restrict access to service manuals to certified repair depots?

Sorry - can't help you, and I was only trying to suggest a reason for your lack of success so far. You could always try contacting a local authorized service agent and see how that goes. Just don't be surprised if they demur- politely or otherwise.
