Hi
I have an Onkyo A 8870 amplifier and I intend to buy a DX 6870 or 6890 Onkyo cd player. I want to modify or use it with an external DAC via optical connection. Does anyone have a service manual for those cd players? Is it a good Idea to purchase such cd players?

DX 68xx series are equipped with a long time obsolete laser unit. Only one advice: don't buy them.

Thanks for advice.
I have a fried that has a few new laser kits for this type of cd player and also for DX 7911. If I remember the mechanism is made by Sanyo but I am not sure, this is the reason that I need the service manual.
Another reason is the design I like it. At the moment my audio setup includes Onkyo amp A-8870 CD Sony CDP 515, DVD Player Panasonic S52 and JBL ATX60 speakers. I have a budget system for the moment.

I used to sell Onkyo CD players & they had a lot of laser problems, in that they just died after about 3 years!
We swapped to Denon & their reliability is exceptional - mine is still going strong after about 15 years.

Why not a Philips based (laser & mech.) kind of cd-player?
Better reliability and also better performance as a digital transport for RD-2 DAC, for example.
[PS: Ne marantz-uim amandoi 😀 ]
