I had a similar experience at a rather expensive restaurant once. We were five people who ordered vanilla sorbet for dessert. After a while the waitress came back and said that unfortunately their freezer had broken down, so the sorbet had melted a bit too much, but if we still wanted it, we could get it for free. We said yes and found that is was absolutely excellent, and tasted much better than if it had been cooler.
On the contrary, a friend of mine went to McDonalds about five minute before closing for the night. They asked if he could take a Big Mac that was a few minutes too old since they had started to clean the kitchen. He said, OK, if i get it cheaper. But no, that was out of the question, so he insisted on a fresch one, to the annoyment of the staff. 🙂
WOW, it was waaaay back in 1980 when I was first accosted by the White Van Gang, it's amazing how these old scams keep going.
In my case, I was loading my B-I-C three way speakers into my car after a party at friend's place. It was obvious that my speakers (which were not considered "high end" at all) were much higher quality than his, and after having seen my brother build his own speakers for next to nothing, I was having none of it. Actually, the next speakers that I purchased were Magneplaners.
Take care,
Doug

What is your avatar Doug? Reminds me of an old game on the IBM XT! I don't remember its name though.
It's actually just a shrunk down version of a graphic I created for my website front page.
Take care,

You know, I'm half-tempted to try my own version of white van speaks... Decent drivers, an okay crossover. Simple, but solid construction, and then line up the production run with the drivers out, and hit the whole mess with bed liner... I wouldn't feel bad about selling $100/each parts cost speaks for $250 each...
