Some of those older euro-cars most definitely needed heat sinks as the engines were air cooled instead of water cooled.
I built my A40 in 2007 and still using it. A40 is a very good sounding class A power amp. It replaced my classic Pioneer M22 in my stereo system

Very nice work! I did a double take when I saw the bottom view of your circuit board. It is exactly the way I have built one offs for years. In the process of building like that you have a good printed circuit design should you ever want to build it again. Thanks for sharing them.
My A40 has no grounded heatsinks. What is the benefit for doing that?
Safety consideration.

This is the amp that got me into true high end audio, also how I got to know Nelson Pass.
Nostalgia you might think, but this amplifier will hold its own against most modern day competitors and best the majority of them.
I have had much success bridging this beauty and driving low impedance loads................ probably time to do it again.

I have now switched between A40 and Stasis 3 during christmas and have to say Stasis 3 is big, bright, fast and solid and the A40 is just the same - but more "black" in between!
Both is adjusted and checked ok (bias and mvDC)
I love them both!
