i was searching for a patent reference to a loudspeaker system i remember seeing a few years back. while i didn't find the patent, i found this...
Omnidirectional speakers
Omnidirectional speakers
There is a giant toroid coil visible. This seems to be an unbaffled driver in the Citation.
When I hung a 12-inch driver from a cord from the ceiling, I used a similar (but smaller) toroidal coil as a passive proto-Linkowitz transform. And any dipole fan would have found the sound quite nice (OK...not much serious bass...).
The less box the better. The dipole fans are right. Maybe that's why the link writer was so impressed way back when.
