I am new to the projector scene having not actually built any yet, but doing a lot of research. I am about to start on my first projector, but wanted to to get a few opinions from those with more experience.
I have an older NEC Versa laptop laying around and decided to pull it apart for the lcd. It was pretty easy, and the lcd is in good shape with just one small scratch on it. The laptop itself was in perfect working order and is currently running Win98.
I was planning on using this screen with an OHP, but am now considering a more customized appraoch using a fresnal or some other optics. I plan to use this setup only for an occasional DVD or VHS movie an, possibly, my N64.
So, since I am not terribly concerned with resolution, what do I need to get my laptop to accept an incoming signal from an analog source or from Svideo?
Thanks in advance.

Also, since i have absolutely no money invested in this project yet, is there anyway I can make a good setup for around $200.00?
You will need a controller card, which will blow teh rest of your budget.. 🙂 you are better off buying a computer LCD screen, or one that accepts pal and ntsc input.... Put teh laptop back together (if you can) and give it to me. . 🙂 lol
I have seen some of these external cards which say they allow the input of svideo or composite video to your computer. Would this somhow work with my laptop? Through serial port maybe?
You may be able to get a video capture card for the laptops PCMCIA slot, but thats going to be costly too.. 🙂 sorry
So, basicaly, you are saying that the whole idea will not work. Unless all I want is a 10' wide desktop?
Well.... if you had a fast network card in teh laptop, you could use that do get a video signal to teh laptop, and just use the laptop as the screen controller... yeah, you can get it to work.. but might be expensive.. 🙂
well, like i said, it is an older laptop. I don't suppose you can send a signal from a PC to it like you can with a laptop to a monitor?
Hmm, no.. you would be best off just selling teh working laptop to a stupid family member who will pay more for it than its worth.. 🙂
well, then i guess it's back to the drawing board.
So are there any cheap yet good quality monitors out there that accept Svideo or RCA video connections?

Hmm.... I don't think you are going to be able to use it... I could be wrong.. you may be able to find a cheap controller, but from what I've heard they are expensive... 🙁 Put teh laptop back together for now. . 🙂 lol... copy down all the numbers you can see ont eh LCD screen first.. you might get lucky.. lol
