Older but cheap Laptops for lcd's?

I am new to the projector scene having not actually built any yet, but doing a lot of research. I am about to start on my first projector, but wanted to to get a few opinions from those with more experience.

I have an older NEC Versa laptop laying around and decided to pull it apart for the lcd. It was pretty easy, and the lcd is in good shape with just one small scratch on it. The laptop itself was in perfect working order and is currently running Win98.

I was planning on using this screen with an OHP, but am now considering a more customized appraoch using a fresnal or some other optics. I plan to use this setup only for an occasional DVD or VHS movie an, possibly, my N64.

So, since I am not terribly concerned with resolution, what do I need to get my laptop to accept an incoming signal from an analog source or from Svideo?

Thanks in advance.

BTW, here's the laptop I pulled the LCD from
