old Onkyo DX C110 6 disc CD player - Weird problem!

So if you give this old Onkyo 6 disc CD Player discs when its been off for a while (no power) it sees discs and spins and plays fine...then after about a minute or two..say you add another disc..then it will not spin for any disc...you can hear the optics moving up and down still but no spin now. Only way you can get it to spin again is to turn it off..leave it for a few hours and then it will start playing any disc first time everytime..until a few minutes later it will stop spinning any disc again.

Ive tried cleaning the leaf switch as this is a Sony based changer...no difference.

..Ive got two of these units and bought a new laser unit KSS240 to fix this one and it did not help...the new laser unit is fine as Ive tried it in the other player...Thats about it.

Anyone got any ideas on what I could try further with this weird one !?

Thanks in advance.

Ive just proved that the power supply etc is fine by swapping the carousel and drive assembly from the working unit I have...and all works fine.

So its something to do with the optical drive assembly.

After watching the behaviour of the fault...I concluded that:

When first powered (cold) the laser pick up can be seen bobbing up/down normally..and subsequently the discs play normally.

After a couple of minutes the laser stops bobbing up n down so much...barely moving...and the discs stop being read.

now worked it out to be a fault with the main optical assembly circuit board...physical inspection of the circuit board and components is unremarkable....this is where I stop.

Suspecting this particular fault is not all that common.
