Hi friends, and post-merry-christmas to all 🙂
I recently found a picture of an old film-projector, and was reminded of other technical gear where this coating was used, it is a structured coating, giving the piece a stunning technical beauty, looking really nice and got me wondering what stuff this could be? Didn’t find anything in this direction 😢…
Anyone has an idea of what this is/was?

thank you

I can't answer your question, but the line: "For use with slow burning film only." is pretty cool.
And that IS a nice finish.
And that IS a nice finish.
I also love that look. I believe it's called a "wrinkle finish." You can buy paints (usually spray paint) to achieve it. Just Google "wrinkle finish paint", "textured spray paint" or "hammered spray paint" and you should find a wide variety of colors and textures available.
I don't think that's wrinkled. Wrinkled has a slightly different look. I think that's called "hammered" or somesuch. Check out this link:

It's called Hammered... Rustoleum makes spray.

Yes, it´s industrial "wrinkle paint".
Very much used in old Tech equipment.
Sorry but no, Hammered is different.
I have used Hammered, you buy the can and salesman asks "how much hammering do you want?" , opens the can and adds proper amount of hammering liquid.
It works just by evaporation if you wish, the oven only hardens it, and it has relief but a "smooth" surface, easy to clean with a wet cloth.
Wrinkle requires an oven and surface is harsh, like sandpaper texture.
And sadly catches dust and is much harder to clean.
Not sure what Rustoleum calls Hammered, but I suspect the smoother one (because it dries and hardens at ambient temperature).

Wrinkle paint AFAIK is a solid colour.
The OP post showed a crystalline multi-colour effect.
Hammer finish is closer.

I should probably put on glasses before looking at photos 🙃
Yeah, it's definitely closer to a hammered finish. But it has much more distinct edges to the "hammer marks," like wrinkles. I've not seen a spray paint that achieves that exact effect, but some are pretty close.
It is also possible to use powder coating to achieve hammered/wrinkled finishes if your budget/application allows.
Wow, thanks for all these inputs!
I looked further using the according keywords and found a hint on radiomuseum.org (https://www.radiomuseum.org/forum/strukturlacke_wie_schrumpflack_kraeusellackhammerschlaglack.html), it seems that it most probably is a sort of wrinkle paint. depending on the application, the wrinkle-effect could be done bigger or smaller etc. ...
OTOH, there's also modern stuff,
like https://www.cosmic-color.com/de/1k-effect-basecoat-ironclaw-grey.html
or https://www.cosmic-color.com/de/wrinkle-effect-black.html
and a coating that seems to have been used quite often in the 80ies (audiolab etc.) is nextel: https://www.nextel-coating.com
and if one wants to get fancy, look here: http://speziallacke.com/index.php <- they have "everything".
