Hi, i'm a newbie and i want to build an lcd projector.
I wanted to know if there are any parts from an old film projector that would help me with this project (lamp, lens...).
Also will a fan from an old pc help me?

Xboy.

Um no

If your looking at using 35mm projector parts from anything made since like, 1970 no. These things (the small ones) use 1-2 THOUSAND watt blubs that are presurized at 10 atm COLD. God knows what it is at operating temp. The 2k projectors where i work run way too many amps to run off of household 240v. Its a short arc lamp; the powersupply is like a welding machine. The heat these things put out when they are focused at the appiture plate will almost instantlly ignite paper.:hot: Not to mention they are loud, hot, and danagerous. If you run a Xenon bulb for too many hours, it will dim, then mabe start to darken the glass(quartz), then it will EXPLODE!:dead: Changing a blub requres this leather jacket thing and a face mask just in case it blows up in your face. Not to mention the cheapest theatre grade 2k Xenon (we use osoram) is like 700 dollors. That blub will run for about 2,000 to 2,500 hours at 12 - 15 hundred watts. As for the reflector, it the size of a large salad bowl. The lenses? Way too long of a thow distance for home use, and the require curved screens to focus evenly (even then it will never be perfect). The only thing that may be of use is the heat sheild from the 5k to 7k watt lamphouses. Its really efficent ir/uv glass that blocks out the heat so the light from the lamp doesent literly burn the print(film) on the higher wattage projectors.😱 Its best to go with a lower wattage halide bulb, which can still blow up, but is in a protective glass case.😎 Not to mention operating costs would be lower(electricity, bulb cost, medical bills, etc.)

Hope this answers your question
