Sorry Guys but I just had to take time out to post the only proper VTR ever produced

The Ampex VR2000 :cloud9:

Amtec and Colortec...

...Geek Heaven...

I've got a couple of old heads from a VR2000...

I have been known to take them out and just stare at them...

They always make me smile🙂

I know... there is no hope...and no cure

They need a lot of TLC but your right - if the signals on the tape there is a way to get a 2000 to lock to it... I once spent 4 months rescuing old Thames TV programs that had been badly stored for over 10 years. This required constantly applied cleaning pad pressure (by thumb🙂) on the heads to stop them clogging and by tweaking the head servos we found a way to get consistent five minute programme chunks off so we could edit the programmes back together. Before all the mods we would get a clog or the servo would unlock within 10 seconds!!! They were very badly stored (damp and variable temperture up to 90 degrees (F) and in cardbaord boxes... for ten years...)

ciao

Hang on to that stuff

all of it will be valuable. I was stunned to learn that there is zero current production of 24 track analog tape machines. So how in the hell are we keep all the old stuff alive when we want to move it to the next big thing?
