Hello
I opened up this powered mixer to fix some dry joints and loose connections and found that the sheet steel shield plate was completely unsecured, apart from the earth tag. It looked as though the plate had at some time been secured by one corner to a mounting point on the top corner of the side jack plug pcb but I could not even find any other mount points although there were holes drilled in each corner of the plate. If the plate had been mounted to that one corner only it would cause stress and flexing to the pcb and repeat of the dry joints problem, but that only explains why it was left completely unsecured and floating inside the cabinet.
Could anyone explain what has happened? Am I missing seeing the other three mount points or could this be an incomplete mod? What can I do to make it safe? It seems to be the correct plate shapewise, when the top panel is laid face down the plate lies snugly and rests on top of the other pcbs but I can see nowhere to screw down through the other three holes.
I contacted Carlsbro but they no longer have recordes of old units since they nearly went bust and got rescued.
