It smells like being the transformer...
I once had a smelling amplifier and the problem was the transformer. Maybe a beer was spilled there...
Um abraço

Thank you all for your hints.
Now something funny is happening: The smell is strong when I get into the garage where it is on, for several days (as soon as I open the door) but when I stand over the amp it has a slightly different smell. In fact it seems the vapors coming out, react with the air and create a somehow different compound. Yes, if I take it out and put it in other compartment of the house, the same thing happens in that compartment… and yes, if I take it out of the garage the smell within disappears.
It’s kind of irritating … I can’t even decide if the vapors come from the back half of the amp or from the front half … it’s everywhere.
I even was suspicious about the cover- it smells also! But, took it out of there and it is not the culprit.
Power transformer seems Ok, doesn’t get hot, and does seem to have the normal stuff. But, fact is, I can’t tell the origin of this … a spilt beer? Well, that didn't came to my mind but, as the amp cover has holes, my first thoughts went to a Cat ***** over the amp and spilt over the main Pcb underneath…
Capacitors … they are in fact a good possibility, such as the pcb itself. I will take out the power capacitors and see what happens.
It has no tantalum caps or selenium rectifiers (it was made around 1981)
Unfortunately, I can end up doing like Wahab; rip it apart for the components, but not without trying to understand.
