After a bit of continuous use the Toshiba 61" bigscreen has quit working. I was playing XBOX when the picture went black and the TV shut down leaving the power LED blinking. This is the symptoms the previoius owner described. I unplugged it and plugged it back in to get video for another 30 seconds before it shut down again. Now it just clicks and the tubes start up then shut down when I unplug it and plug it back in.

Any thoughts? I'm assuming it isn't major since I had a wonderful picture for a while. Could it be a logic circuit in the power supply? Maybe a physical switch problem?

I would let it cool for a few hours and then see if it powers up for a while until it over heats again. It could be a problem with the liquid cooling on a crt. If it seems to be an over heating problem try to conferm this my taking it outside in the cold and put a fan blowing into the back and see if it runs good. I would also check for leaking caps.

I don't know if projection tv's have X-Ray protection, but that would be activated for some reason or another. either becuase of an overvoltage to the tubes or a bad detector. Also, but access the tv's service menu, usually you enter a code in the remote and then turn it on.

No sorry, i would look online for where to find the service menu, it might turn on and go to the service menu, if the turning off is designed to protect the set. The x-ray is just a guess on my part i can't really elaberate more, i have almost no experence with tv set repair.

That's ok. I called my local Toshiba repairman. I've had him do work on other TV's I've had and he said he's willing to bet he can have it fixed for under 300 bucks. I'd say if he can do it then great. I'm having a tech come over tomorrow to give it a look. We'll see what happens, I'm trying to get it up and running for xmas so all the kids in the family can play XBOX and whatnot.

interesting

I have had the same problem with a stand up video console ( i think it was something like space.... darts i think)

anyway the tv was placed in an angle and then there was a huge mirror which was tilted as well and gave the whole thing some depth. A capacitor was the problem (in the power supply) it was an easy fix as there was a service manual that came with it and described problems and fixes.

J-P.

Ok, got it fixed for 350 bucks which included the house call fee. Not bad although I could have fixed it had I known what the problem was. Two IC's went out in the power supply. Works like a charm now.

One problem, there is a noticeable line horizontally across the whole screen near the center. It appears redish, mostly noticeable with skin tones etc. I've set the convergence and it's perfect, I've adjusted the convergence in that area to try and compensate for the problem but it doesn't seem to affect it. Is there another way I can address this?

Thanks.

Darren
