I opened a thread earlier bout getting an ohp from america.
But i was browsing the internet and i found an ohp here, so i wont have a 110/220v problem
its a:

Geha S 600 Overhead projektor HMI 575 W

This one uses a mh bulb.

Now my question is, the faq states these give better quality then halogen bulbs. How much lumens does a hmi 575 w produce?
I know the bulbs are more expensive but the last like a 1000 hours so in the end the costs will be the same.

I need to ask the they guy if the ballast is included i guess it is.
I checked out and it uses the osram HMI 575 W and that one is widely available so getting a new bulb wont be a problem.

I been lurking here for a while and to me it looks like a good deal if the ballast is included.

But id like to hear what you experienced guys think of it.

..edit a supplier of the bulb states on the net that the bulb has 49000 lumens?????
Shouldnt that be 4900?

Derranged.

You must be very careful when using the HMI lamps, a), because the ballast puts about 20KV through the lamp to start it, and b), the lamp produces loads of UV light, so this needs to be screened. If you don't, you can seriously burn your retinas, with potentially perminant damage.

First of all thx for your reply.

Im not very technical but when you say it puts out 20kv, you mean the strenght of the lightsource?

Burning my retina's?? Damn that sounds dangerous.
What do you mean with it has to be screened?
If i use it in a normal way:

I put it on and project on the wall/screen en don't look directly in the light will i be in any danger?
I understand that if i stare right into the middle of the lightsource, the light will be so strong it will burn my retina's.
But with normal use i wont be in any danger right?

I mean its a normal commercial ohp and they woudnt make i that way that when you put it on everyone in the room burn their retina's.

Sorry for the many question but i just have to make sure im not in any danger.

btw will this hmi lamp give me better quality picture then a normal hallogen lamp? If i understand it right it does.
Cause if it doesnt there wouldnt be much use for me to take any form of risk buying this ohp.

best wishes,

Robert

Hi Derranged, sorry to take so long to get back to you, but I have been busy...

The light quality from HMI bulbs is great, and should be more than bright enough. About ten years ago I remember playing with one of the first LCD projectors that came out with this lamp, we used to wheel it out of the warehouse at night and use it to project on the wall of a nearby factory😉

20kv means that the voltage needed to strike the lamp is about 20 000V.

What I was trying to say, is that the projector is probably very safe, but modifying it or running the lamp with the case open is a very bad idea.

So go ahead and buy it, you should get great results as long as you can keep the screen cool🙂
