anyone tried adding a metal halide ballast and lamp to the insides of an OHP chassis? (there does seem to be a good deal of empty space inside) my elmo OHP has a spherical reflector, halogen lamp, and convex condenser lens mounted on a hinge. if the lens has to be moved to accomodate the larger width of a MH bulb, are there any focal length issues that have to be dealt with?

Hi rusty what model of elmo do you have? I got one "for parts" it's cdn army surplus LOL even had the DND condition tag on it marked as "n/s (non serviceable) No Power" it has a busted switch 😉 $10.00 All I wanted from it originally was the frezzie, turns out it's a plastic one 🙁 . Mine is a HP L14 nothing like yours I think, does yours have a glass or plastic frez?

zardoz: it's an elmo HP-A305LV, it has a plastic fresnel and triplet optics (like the solar deluxe). what i'm primarily interested in, though, is the feasibility of replacing the lamp assembly with a metal halide ballast and lamp after the two 24v/250w EHJ bulbs burn out. however, even the BT-28 size bulbs are a bit larger than the EHJs 🙂
