Im a college student so i dont have much money, but i bet i can pool around some money with the people i love with to make a projector but my question is what should i go for
just put the fresnel lens in front of my tv? Get a OHP and a LCD panel and use that or should i just go balls to the wall and make a LCD projector?
my main concern is money and if i would be able to take the LCD screen out safely, im not even sure how to do it yet, is it hard? also what kind of light is good for dcent life time and how much to replace, i dont wnt to constantly have to replace a $100 bulb every week, ANY input is good, thanks so much!
also whats a good lcd size? the bigger the better? tahnks so much@

fresnel in front of tv is a no-no. ohp + lcd works well and requires no skill, and can later be used to build a diy projector. So do the same as me: get an ohp + lcd and later build it into something a bit better.
taking a backlight out of an lcd is easy.
best light type is metal halide. cost $50 for a bulb and each one lasts 10,000 hours.
as for lcd size. smaller is better because u can reduce the size of your enclosure. you need to trade off however, against resolution. Most small lcd's 7" and under are only 320x240 res or lower and these give a shitty picture. A small lcd with good resolution is the lilliput.
search in future... none of the above is groundbreaking.

fresnel infront of a tv is a no-no. Big triplet (over 120mm diameter) infront a flat screen tv is a yes yes.... (Im using a curved screen TV and a 175mm triplet, and it works fine, crappy detail because the tv is 15yrs old! but the brighness is adequate for 60-80 inches.
well if i get an OHP with a 7" panel and then later build a projector using lumens designs and use the 7" screen for a 100" projcted screen. wont it look a lot crappier than using a 15" screen?
You might want to check this thread out and get a feel of the projected image (remember the camera does not do the actual screens justice):

I myself am going for the LCD design. I did get a hold of an Apollo 2210 OHP (will retrofit a metal-hylide bulb and replace the singlet lens with the fujinon lens from the surplus shack) will try to get the lilliput 7" LCD. To start things off. I've seen recommendations for beginners to do that just to get the feel of the optics, light and how it projects. Then you can always custom build your own case.

Sorry for the double post. But I forgot to say a few things.
I was going to do the Computer case mod but thought better of it since it's a bit more complicated. I will attempt that later. I will go the east route first.
As for the Apollo 2210. I was able to get this through a friend for no charge. There is a catch. The OHP keeps blowing the ENX bulbs from 1 min to 5 min of run time. It's random on when the bulb pops. I am assuming this is due to a bad ballast. I need to pick up a volt/amp meter to check what's going on at the bulb contacts. Hence, the reason for upgrading to metal hylide bulbs (which I would have done anyway just for the hourage of life and color). The place where my friend works is getting a new and better one and they were just going to trash the Apollo.
