I built BIBs for Fostex 166FEs a while back. One channel has always been louder than the other. I assumed it was my older amp.
I just put a digital meter on the speaker terminals (disconnected from amp) and measured:
L 8.5 ohms
R 11.8 ohms
Is that enough difference to worry about?
Thanks,
Mack

Contact the manufacturer.
That difference is too much to be within manufacturing tolerance.
It never occurred to me to check resistance 4 years ago when I got them.
Live and learn.

It also didn't occur to me to check the actual speaker, which I just did. Thankfully it's ok but the internal wiring measured 2.4 ohms each side (!?). I ran new wire from the speaker to the terminal post and the L/R sound is now balanced.... for the first time since they were built.
Arrg,

If your wiring was 2.4 ohms, you had some other issue.
I put the meter on the removed lengths of cat5 and each measured 2.4 ohm. The cable I unsoldered from inside the cabinet is the same as is run in between the amp and speakers. I measured these too. Each of the two 5m strands is .8 ohm.
I could see or feel any damage. I'm perplexed but the speaker no longer sounds dull.
