odd transistors

I'm working on an old preamp and found some transistors with leg rot. Nothing new there, but the part numbers have me at a loss as they don't seem to Google with any useful information. Here they are:
NP4249 ebc
NP5209 ebc
NPTN225
2n3996

I found basic specs on the last part, but the first three have me wondering how to replace them with new parts... Any help given would be appreciated.

make and model of the old preamp might help us find a schematic.

In the case of the first two, try putting 2N in place of the NP, and see if the specs make sense for your parts.

And what does each part do? If it is a low voltage regulator circuit or something that controls an LED, then it hardly matters what type you use, as long as voltage and current are covered.
