Hi,
I got this idea of making open baffles for my computer. These have to be quite small, like a picture frame, to be on the desk. A sub can be added later. The drivers are of course small - I am going to measure the parameters of my "Genius" speakers to see if their drivers are suited for an OB.

Sounds like fun. Let us know how it turns out.
To take the idea even further, if you have a picuture handy that you would could work a 3" round black spot into without anyone noticing-say someone wearing a black dress or suit-you can use a picture frame with a picture in it and mount the speaker in it too.
Results might be both visually and sonically interesting. 🙂

You also must select shielded magnet speakers in order of not having problems with magnetization of your monitor. Demag a monitor is also not too much difficult but you will also require a demag coil or a magnet at least.

Maybe I can use the drivers of my computer speakers, which are shielded. No problems there.

I don't know how avalable they are in Portugal, but a pretty nice 3" shielded speaker is available from Adire Audio. It seems to be about 5 dB down at 10 KHz and fairly smooth response up to that point.
I know Adire has European distributors, check their distributor page.

I don't know if that small a baffle will be very effective...but it certainly is interesting. How about an open three-sided module (not very strong, though)?
I wonder if the TB 871 is suitable for open-baffle use. It has a high Qts, the first requirement for such a design. Other considerations?
I found 2 old Phillips speakers from a TT/K7 combo from the 70s. They are plastic units with the back open like a grid. The drivers are 5.7" (or something like that) and are bicone. On the plastic boxes they sound awfull but when removed they shown to be interesting. As the boxes were open in the back they should behave nice on an OB.
Of course, this will be bigger than I though first. Anyway I have to measure those drivers parameters.
