Like your example, it used to be a toddler to teen thing. At some point, most people used to grow up and learn to communicate non-destructively. Now, so many don't mature past that point. Similar to how way too many adults on the freeway throw tantrums if they are toddlers, if they perceive anyone disrespecting them in the slightest.I think it's something to be with feeling totally powerless and inconsequential; they do something to make people take notice of them, I feel quite powerless and inconsequential, but I direct my efforts in a constructive direction, partly because it occupies my mind, and helps me understand stuff, for some reason, some people chose the opposite.
I can remember a teacher at school telling us of his hero, some guy who wanted to turn delinquent boys lives around. When he found out that one of the boys in his care had broken a window, he went around the school with the boy, braking the windows himself, eventually the boy saw how pointless it was, and never wanted to do it again. When the teacher told us of this, I thought it was stupid, but now I realize that, although a waste of windows, it turned that boy's life around.
It doesn't excuse such behaviour, but it helps understand it.
Didnt listen to enough Renaissance on the music system at home, when growing up. (It's only half a century+ old...and I for one still like the way she sings it; so warm)
Come along with me
Down into the world of seeing
Come and you'll be free
Take the time to find the feeling
See everything on it's own
And you'll find you know the way
And you'll know the things you're shown
Owe everything to the day
Chorus:
See the carpet of the sun
The green grass soft and sweet
Sands upon the shores of time
Of ocean mountain deep
Part of the world that you live in
You are the part that you're giving
Come into the day
Feel the sunshine warmth around you
Sounds from far away
Music of the love that found you
The seed that you plant today
Tomorrow will be a tree
And living goes on this way
It's all part of you and me
Come along with me
Down into the world of seeing
Come and you'll be free
Take the time to find the feeling
See everything on it's own
And you'll find you know the way
And you'll know the things you're shown
Owe everything to the day

UPDATE:
At the trial of the two men accused of chopping down the Sycamore Gap tree, the jury are told the pair kept a wedge of the tree as a trophy.

Prosecutors at Newcastle Crown Court describe the tree felling as a "moronic mission", while the two men each deny two counts of criminal damage.
Jurors have been warned to try the case purely on the evidence heard in court and set all emotion aside.
The trial opened today (Tuesday) and is listed for ten days.

Apparently they filmed the event plus one of their's phone was located in the vicinity at the time.
Perhaps they should go for a Darwin award next 🤣

The tree was only 100 years old... but the Wall has stood there for 2000 years.
If any part of the wall is damaged then these two should suffer Roman Style...
When you think about it, was the tree on the North or South side of the Wall?
Maybe the Wall should have been taller to keep the gene pool separate... what kind of an idiot goes out and chops a tree like that? Mixing genes can create a superior mix, but it can also beget morons...

Almost all the standing masonry of Hadrian's Wall was removed in early modern times and used for local roads and farmhouses. None of it stands to its original height.
It should be noted that Hadrian's Wall lies entirely within England and has never formed the Anglo-Scottish border.

When Hadrian’s Wall was first built many of its forts actually faced south.
The wall was built not only to protect the Romans from the Caledonian Picts to the North, but also from the great local tribe called the Brigantes whose territory lay on both sides of the wall.
P.S. The English and the Scots did not settle in Britain until three centuries after Hadrian’s Wall was built. England or Scotland simply did not exist in Roman times!

Yeah, but he chops down nations for harvest, versus a single tree for entertainment.Wasn't Elon Musk seen with a chainsaw recently?
On a more positive note, the National Trust has grown saplings from seeds recovered from the felled Sycamore Gap tree.
49 of the saplings - one for each foot of the sycamore’s height - will be given away to support good causes in the Trees of Hope project.
The saplings will be planted in public places across the UK, allowing the legacy of the original tree to continue.

Fortunately, it was plastic, and not a real one.Wasn't Elon Musk seen with a chainsaw recently?

If the perp is found, what would be an appropriate punishment for them? Jail time? Fine? Compulsory work time with a tree planting company?Deeply moving news this afternoon about the cutting down of a timeless and completely defenseless ancient icon.
Thousands have stood here and admired the beauty of this landscape.
If any of you have photos or tangible memories of this place, post them here in memory of this unique tree.
Please, no condemnation of the alleged perpetrator, it has not yet been proven who did it.

The sentence that someone will receive when found guilty of a first offence of criminal damage is set by English law.
As this case is being held in a Crown Court and not a Magistrate's Court, a hefty prison sentence in excess of 12 months could be on the cards. The maximum penalty for criminal damage without an aggravated element is 10 years’ imprisonment.
This is what I have gleaned from a quick look at the Criminal Damage Act 1971 of England and Wales, but please note that I am not a member of the legal profession!
Anni Haslam has such a mesmerising voice, and the song arrangements are timeless. I saw them live at Dunstable Civic Hall (UK) in '78. (Genesis played there in '73!).Didnt listen to enough Renaissance on the music system at home, when growing up. It gladdens my heart that they were appreciated so far from their homeland.
