Nytech Audio CA 252 amp

Just come across my dads old amp, tuner and turntable.

The amp I am having issues with.

The back of the amp looks like this. I assume it has a DIN plug going to a preamp but I do not have one and I know for a fact it was used with a DIN plug looped back somehow but I have no idea which pins to cross over.

Could someone explain where I can get or how I can make one of these cables.

Give all of the switches and knobs a good twiddle, they can often oxidise causing poor quality sound.

How is the quality of the connection you made on the pre/power socket?

Your electrolytic capacitors are also most likely at the end of their useful life, these can cause poor fuzzy sound, especially if there are ones in the signal path.

Well the only knobs are the power button and the 2 sliders, balance and volume.

Inside the amp is nice and clean. Where can you buy parts for these amps? The connection isn't brilliant on my preamp loop plug. What I will do is strip the amp down and clean any connections that look oxidised. There was an earth that looked a bit dodgy.

Just looked up the speakers and a pair on ebay in slightly better condition are going for £250 with 4 days left! I hope they haven't deteriorated!

Well that is the plan for this evening. Thanks for the tips, sorry if I am not very clear but I am new to audio equipment, I am used to big diesel engines not precise electronics.

Well after stripping it down, cleaning every contact that is removable and cleaning up a dodgy earth it is almost there.

I still get fuzz. It does not happen at all when nothing is plugged into the amp. It happens when I plug anything e.g. pc or phone into the amp it starts to fuzz. No fuzz at 0% volume and it just gets louder and louder till full volume when it is above speaking level.

Listening to music it is very good at voice, not at bass. It is bassy but just sounds wrong.

One speaker has the tweeter cone pressed in 🙁

Only problems now are bass which can be helped by turning volume down on the input device and up on the amp but this means more fuzz in the background.
Speaker cone pressed in.
Missing one speaker cable so I can only test one at a time.

I own a CTA252 that is the tuner, pre and power amp in the same box. The various boards are interlinked by molex connectors that corrode with age. Also you may find that due to age and non-use some of the electrolyic capacitors need changing - I re-capped mine and it sounds great. I may have a circuit diagram for your unit if you need one.

Hi,came across this site and your post when searching for anything Nytech.Have owned several Nytech systems since they first started including 2 active systems.Recently have ressurected an active system by finally obtaining a working pair of ARC 050.Could I possibly trouble you for a copy of the circuit diagram. One of the original designers is still around and will give info and help, but cannot for the life of me remember which website he frequents. Fred.
