Number of replies in a thread

Just curious if other people do this- When the number of replies to a thread exceeds something between 50 and 100, I stop reading it. I figure anything of importance has already been said, or worse, the thread has gone way off topic or degrades into one of the common infinite loops of audio.

There are a few categories where I don't think this applies, like the one on Bob Cordell's book, but those are rare.

Or am I alone in this and everybody else slogs through those hundreds of replies?

There are certainly very few threads much longer than that where I would even consider slogging through.

I remember reading many many pages of the f5 thread and it seemed people kept asking the same damn questions - needed a FAQ.

Most posts in the Shigaclone thread are on topic, and there are thousands of posts to that thread, but it does get hard to slog through threads that are more than a few hundred posts long. If I am looking for something specific I will use the search function and cross my fingers.. 😀

Personally I think that the site would be better if it had, lets say three, rooms to choose from on the front page.

DIY-AUDIO

Only to be used for On-Topic conversations.

LOUNGE

To be used for Off-Topic conversations

SWAPMEET

To be used for items for sale.

Users could then enter whichever Chatroom they wanted to enter without being flooded by junk posts that have no relevance to what they are searching for.
