Where do I start??!! Well I got my new (to me) rega planar2 tt from ebay very nicely packed. I set it up and switched it on and the glass platter wouldn't quite get going up tp speed. The spindle that drives the belt wobbled to and fro about 1.5-2 millimeters back and forth. I don't think this is normal.I took the platter off and everything seemed fine. Once the platter was back in place, it seemed as if the belt was too loose or the platter too heavy, as the belt once again struggled to get the platter up to speed. I sat and waited for about 60 seconds. Also, the belt makes a noise that's hard to describe...it kind of sounds like it's jumping from the 45rpm groove to the 33 rpm groove. I emailed the seller but he says that the tt takes a few seconds to get going and he doesn't recall the belt spindle wobbling when under a load. If anyone can offer ANY assistance I would really appreciate it.

The motor hangs on a rubber O ring similar to the drive 'belt'. Check that it is still in place, as it may have detached in transit and the motor may have too much movement. Note that it IS meant to move a bit...
Second, wipe the drive belt with alcohol to make sure it doesn't slip.
Also, you should give the platter a careful spin as you switch it on to help it get up to speed.

Also check that the pulley is not loose on the motor spindle, this is quite a common Rega problem. A spot of super glue will cure it.
I too have bought a second-hand Rega Planar 2 and what you need is a new belt!.How do I know?... because they do really weird things like this and take a looonnng time to spin-up,when the belt is old.So if all else looks fine then it is time to buy a new belt,it will then spin-up in 5 seconds.Rega recommends changing the belt every 3 years or so,don't sweat it it.You can get them on e-bay or find someone who deals in Rega, should be easy to get.
I appreciate the help, guys. It is a beautiful deck and I really want to get back into vinyl very badly so the advice that you've given is definately helpful. I already ordered a new belt incase that was the problem but I will also check the other stuff as well.
