I may have an opportunity to pick up several old fender amp chassis that never made it off the assembly line. Tube and SS. Were owned by a previous employee who worked in quality control. Has since retired. a local guy, so might have worked in Leo's Fullerton shop. Don't have any info on what models or years (yet). These could be worth some $$? I realize amps just get parts replaced as they fail (or are upgraded or modded), but I'm just drooling over playing with a never-sold fender amp!
For a little shock of reality:
How do you expect to troubleshoot and repair them?
Can youtroubleshoot them?
By the way, if they were reasonably repairable they would have been so, and sold.
There's time and $$$ invested on them and no Company (definitely not Fender) is going to junk them if reasonably repairable.
Tell your friend to make them usable and then you'll happily buy them.
Ouch!!!never made it off the assembly line......
You bet.quality control......
Doesn't help, big time.Don't have any info .......
How do you expect to troubleshoot and repair them?
That's easy .... the difficult part is knowing which ones to replace.I realize amps just get parts replaced as they fail .......

Hi LATUBEGEEK,
If you can get the schematics for them and have the time to trace and fix what was originally wrong,Get them at a good price and go for it,If you don't fix them you can always sell the parts.
I bought one at a yard sale for $20 ,replaced the caps that tested bad and checked everything else ,It is smoking!! getting 100 + watts from 2 6l6's and it sounds good too, The tubes and transformers are worth money by themselves , Parts are available, I would like to have another fender bass man tube chassis ,then I could run them for dual subs, lol.
If you request he repair them they won't be cheap,,,,,maybe he will help you along with them.
Good luck to YA!
NS

Can't tell anything without more info. Like the particulars of what these are, and what you mean by "pick up"...

Does it work? What condition are they in? What is included with the chassis? Not a lot of value there unless it is a really nice condition populare model that actually works. But you can repair anything every last part is still available and all the schematics are on-line
BTW I have a question for you. Someone told me about the old car, I think it is a Ford but I've not seen it yet. I don't know the year or the model or if it is a complete care or just parts. What is it worth??
You see what I mean, the answer is "It depends."
Personally I wouldn't consider them anything but a parts source. Expect anymore and you're likely to be disappointed.
No, a Dumble is a Ferrari.
A Fender is a Ford, specially an old one, and that's a compliment.
Any doubt about it?: just compare street prices 😉

ChrisA: All I'm gonna say is this....a Fender is not a Ford, its a Ferrari.....
No I've got some Fender gear. It's basic and just works. Classic and simple. Farraris are highly tuned, have a bazillina parts and spend a lot of time in the shop. Leo Fender took out every single last part and wire he could and that is what made them great.
An old Fender Champ is as sophisticated as a 1958 ford pickup truck. And that is a GOOD thing.
But we don't know anything about these amps, Maybe a blow transformer and rusted chassis or a mint condition classic, even the OP does not know.
What is promising about a potential deal is that it would be an NOS Fender chassis, at minimum if you have to replace lots of parts to rebuild..you will end up with something that can (IMO) legally keep the name Fender on it provided it is already on the chassis. If you wanted to sell it as reconditioned it should be on the premise of disclosing that to a customer. There are a lot of aftermarket companies that can sell you replacement parts, which could add up very quickly $$.
I think first thing is to find out what the selling price is for these, evaluate (assume worst case) a real cost of rebuilding, or be reasonable in what expectations you have for parts of unknown condition, despite the Fender name on them. They did not make it out of production, so obviously try to negotiate a lowest price.

I still find this business very iffy, cludy, dark, you name it. 🙄
To begin with, no models are mentioned, and the undefined Tube/SS mix makes me think. 😕
Also, somebody who "used to work at the Fender Factory in Fullerton" is not exactly a Music Industry outsider, he should know how much his stuff is worth .... or not.
I wonder why this isn't just being offered in EBay by him, and pocketing the full profit.
Really, ends do not meet here 😕

The more I think about it, the fishier this sounds.
Yes for what any chassis is worth one would need to know, if you actually worked at the plant. Value is in the pedigree. If these are not finished amps, well they can be refurbished, but it is important to establish and disclose that. Not hard to make a list of model numbers, and maybe some pics..post them and see.
