Hi all!
Hopefully a simple question someone can answer. Not sure if it’s in the right forum or not.

I have 2 x 4ohm speakers, both have a RMS of 40 watts each. If I wire them in series I get an 8 ohm load. Does this mean that the speakers RMS now changes to around 20 watts each as I have now changed the speakers ohms? Or do the speakers handle 40 watts RMS regardless of ohms?
Is it just the amplifier which puts out different watts due to the speaker wiring changes?

Thanks all!

Two 40 watt, 4 ohm speakers in series now are rated at 80 watts, 8 ohms.
Simple multiplication.

Amplifier wattage is rated for a given impedence.
For instance, an amp that is rated to put out 50 watts into 4 ohms will then produce 25 watts into 8 ohms. - generally.
