Noob needs help with a MusicAngel preamp

Hello,

I bought a re-furbished pre-amp which initially worked fine. Then I replaced the tubes and something got messed up

EST » TOOTEKATALOOG

This is it, a MusicAngel device using 12ax7 x2 and 12au7

I replaced the original tubes with 2x Tung-Sol 12AX7 and 1x Electro Harmonix 12AU7EH

There was only really quiet sound from right channel. When I put back the original tubes, the sound came back but was crackling.

Did I break it?

Thanks for any response!

Seems that was not the case. Turned out it doesnt support 12AU7 tubes, the markings on the board were wrong. But back stock tubes with new rectifier tube and it works again just fine.

If anyone has any recs for 6Z4P,6N2P-EV,6N1P-VI. type tubes then lemme know!

Thanks guys! 🙂

Google for some tube equivalent charts (Russian/Chinese vs. Western types) and look carefully at the pinout arrangement differences, especially the heaters.
Also, look for the original (cyrillic) names of the Russian tubes (the Chinese are mostly just recent knockoffs) because most often you can be fooled due to some bad translations.

The Chinese 5Z4P looks like a 5Y3 with a cathode sleeve.
The Chinese 5Z4P is an octal knockoff of the Russian 5Ц4С wich is a plug-and-play for 5Y3 but with less voltage drop.
However, the MusicAngel rectifier tube is a heptal "6Z4P" (as marked by the Chinese ) wich is a direct copy of the Russian (also heptal) 6Ц4П :
6Ц4П, Tube 6Ц4П; Rohre 6Ц4П ID18801, Full-Wave Vacuum Rectif
CAUTION! The main problem with the Russian/Chinese 6Ц4П /6Z4P is that THEY CANNOT BE USED INSTEAD OF THEIR WESTERN EQUIVALENTS (such as 6X4,EZ90 and so on) as a direct replacement because of different pinout connections: 6X4, Tube 6X4; Rohre 6X4 ID3258, Full-Wave Vacuum Rectifier
