Has anyone experimented with other gain than 20-30 which is what showed up as the norm when I searched this forum? General consensus is that the lower values the better, but has anyone tried gains between 10-18 or so? Is stability THAT big of a problem below gain=20?
Reason I ask, is that I don't need the power of the 3875 or even the 1875, but thought less gain would be better than attenuation of the input. My rails will be +/- 23 VDC and I'll be using the 1875.

You should try basing your design on the inverting technique, you can even go as far as gain=1, most people believe it sounds better too 😱
For many reasons, I'm sticking with the non-inverting amp at the moment. The main one is too many factors affect the feedback circuit on an inverting amp. There are less variables on the noninverting one: 2 resistors, and signal ground. On the inverting amp, you have the attenuator, dc blocking cap, wire, etc.
