I have just finished cobbling together a little home theatre active sub, using an old amp and driver I had lying around with a passive line level crossover.
It all works fine apart from one thing, the torroidal transformer is really noisy.
I have mounted the transformer directly to the cabinet on a layer of sorbathane, and my box is well damped, so I think the noise must be purely mechanical in nature, internal to the trannie.
Any one have any idea how to to silence it, or do I just have to bite the bullet and buy a new one?

Throw the transformer in a metall box and fill it up with silicone or something similar and put a lid on. This of course require that the transformer doesn't get hot. This method will reduce mechanical vibration and shield the thing at the same time if you connect the box to ground.
